Kobena Eyi Acquah

Lawyer and poet Dr Kobena Eyi Acquah was born in Winneba where he grew up close to the earth, as he likes to put it. A Lawyer of some forty years standing and a Notary Public, he has been Chief Legal Adviser to a Bank and Solicitor Secretary to a financial investment company, among others. He was a Member of the Constituent Assembly that drew up Ghana's 1979 Third Republican Constitution, and again of the Assembly that drew up the current 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution.

He served as Member of the National Media Commission and Ghana Book Development Council, and Chairman of the Copyright Board and the WEB Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, among others.

A Fellow and Past President of the Ghana Association of Writers, Kobena Eyi Acquah has established himself as a definitive poetic voice, and his works are studied in Schools and Universities around the world. Recognition for his work include the Valco Fund Literary Award, the Commonwealth Poetry Prize for Africa, the Noma Prize and the Ghana Book Award. His collections include The Man Who Died, Music for a Dream Dance, Rivers Must Flow and No Time For A Masterpiece. He has in preparation Fantasia on a Revolutionary Theme and Transit Quarters and a revised commemorative edition of Rivers Must Flow
