Gideon Commey

Gideon Commey is the co-founder and campaign strategist of the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM), the largest youth-led environmental group in Ghana. He is also a Climate Reality Leader, personally trained by former US Vice President Al Gore.

Gideon founded GYEM in 2012 to work with young people to solve the environmental crisis in Ghana. Since then, he has personally trained more than 2,000 young people on environment and climate change. He has also led several campaigns to promote environmental sustainability, as well as organizing Power Shift, the largest youth environmental and climate summit in Ghana held annually.

In 2015, Gideon was selected by the US State Department for the Community Solutions Program (CSP) fellowship where he spent 4 months in the US working with 350Vermont, a leading environmental group in the state of Vermont. He lives in Ghana and serves as the Regional Youth Coordinator (Africa) and Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS), having served as a flagbearer for Ghana in Westminster Abbey on Commonwealth Day 2012 during the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
