The Journal of the Writers Project of Ghana -- Submissions

The new Journal of the Writers Project of Ghana (JWPG) is now receiving submissions.

JWPG will publish original work by emerging and established writers of Ghanaians home and abroad, writers from other African countries, and by other writers who write about or from Ghana. JWPG seeks to showcase the best of contemporary literature from Ghana and provide a space for critical conversations about the literary arts.

JWPG accepts submissions in English and local variations of same, Pidgin English, and Ghanaian languages. All genres are considered and submissions will be received all year round.

You may submit creative pieces, critiques, interviews, author biographies, pop culture analyses, photo essays, personal essays, short stories, novel extracts, journal extracts, biographies, autobiographies, travel writing, poetry, and reviews (eg., of books, literary events, poetry or music albums). The journal is open to non-academic and academic content.

Submission Guidelines: Authors can only make one submission, in one genre, at a time. In general, work submitted to JWPG should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors who wish to submit already published work must contact the journal before doing so.

Submissions should be prepared as one Word document. This document must have a cover page that includes a 150 word bio and contact details of the author (name, email address and phone number). Authors using pseudonyms must indicate this in their submissions.

For interviews and non-fiction, submissions must also include an abstract of 200 words on the cover page.

For submissions in indigenous Ghanaian languages, authors must include translations of these works and clearly indicate the names and contact details of translators on the cover page.

For poetry, submit a maximum of three poems. Each poem should not exceed 30 lines.

Prose and interviews should not exceed 3000 words.

Drama/screenplay/short play should be a maximum of 4000 words with 2-4 acts, and a maximum of 5 characters.

Deadline: To be considered for publication in the first issue later this year, authors must submit their work by October 26th, 2021. Works submitted after this deadline will be considered for subsequent issues.
