Writer for May - Kojo Laing
Writers Project of Ghana is happy to present as guest writer for the month of May, award-winning poet and novelist, Kojo Laing.

Kojo Laing was born in Kumasi and educated in Ghana, England, and Scotland. His works include Search Sweet Country (1986), Woman of the Aeroplanes (1988), and Major Gentl and the Achimota Wars (1992). His short story, Vacancy for the Post of Jesus Christ, appeared in the anthology, Contemporary African Short Stories (1992). The novel Big Bishop Roko and the Altar Gangsters was published by Woeli Publishing Services in 2006. In 2010, Kojo Laing participated in the “Pilgrimages’’ writing program organised by the Chinua Achebe Center for African Writers, which saw him traveling to Cape Town.

Earlier this month, Kojo’s novel Search Sweet Country was re-issued by McSweeney. Search Sweet Country is described by writer and critic Binyavanga Wainaina as “The finest novel written in English ever to come out of the African continent”, and is now available at Amazon.com.

This reading series is organised in collaboration with the Goethe Institute, Accra, and offers the opportunity to meet and interact with Kojo Laing. There will be a short discussion session after the readings.
