The Book Bridge: Connecting Generations Through Literature

The Book Bridge: Connecting Generations Through Literature

Writers Project of Ghana and the Los Angeles Public Library are proud to collaborate on a discussion with Ghanaian writers Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, and Mamle Wolo. Titled "The Book Bridge: Connecting Generations Through Literature", this event will take place online and will be live on the LAPL Youtube Channel. (See here for the LAPL events page).

Join us for this panel discussion on how writers like the panelists can help reconnect (Ghanaian) children to their culture. A new generation of Ghanian writers are producing something that used to be rare in Ghana - homegrown children’s literature. This panel will examine whether such literature has any power to redress the cultural changes in contemporary Ghana.

Elizabeth-Irene Baitie is a multiple award-winning author of books set in Ghana for children and young adults. Nii Ayikwei Parkes is a multi-genre author, working across poetry, radio, fiction, and children's writing. Mamle Wolo is a children's author whose books include The Kaya Girl and Flying Through Water. Moderator Isaac Quist has enjoyed an extensive career as an educator in Ghana and beyond.
