Poetry Time at Goethe Abansoro with Mwinkum Yirkyio and Sarpong Osei Asamoah

Goethe-Institut Ghana and Writers Project of Ghana are happy to announce our return to programming for Poetry Time at Goethe Abansoro, a themed poetry reading and conversation session. This first edition of Poetry Time at Goethe Abansoro for 2023 is slated for Wednesday 8th February 2023, at 7 PM GMT at the Goethe-Institut in Cantonments, Accra. This month, poets Mwinkum Yirkyio and Sarpong Osei Asamoah will read and engage in discussion about their works.
Sarpong Osei Asamoah is an educator and poet who lives in Accra. His work has been featured in SAND Journal, Tampered Press Magazine, Protean Magazine online, Agbowo Magazine, Lolwe, Olongo Africa Magazine, Bacopa Literary Review, Journal of the Writers Project of Ghana, (Twi poems) at WriteGhana.com, 20.35: Anthology of Contemporary Poetry among others. He is a poetry editor at the Contemporary Ghanaian Writers Series (CGWS), has been an intern at the Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOATAD) as well as an editorial intern at Tampered Press. He is the Host of CanonPodcast. Mwinkum Yirkyio is the author of two books, a novel and a poetry chapbook. The novel, The Infiltration is book one of a trilogy (The Queer Debacle Trilogy). The poetry chapbook is titled Deconstructing the Pride, a collection of twenty-one poems that seeks to amplify the varied views held by Ghanaians on homosexuality. Mwinkum holds a bachelor's degree in a combined major of English and Sociology from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and an LLB from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He spent five years teaching English Language and Literature-In-English at St Hubert Seminary Senior High School (SAHUSS). He is currently the senior editor at Makola Books Limited. He is presently at work on book two of the trilogy and is hopeful of publishing a full-size poetry anthology entitled, "Just Human", a reflection on the intricate issues that tend to confound our human existence.
