Writers Project of Ghana and Goethe-Institut Ghana are pleased to present Ghanaian-American writer Yaa Gyasi for the July edition of our public reading series.

Yaa will be joining the event virtually from the USA.

Yaa Gyasi is the author of Homegoing (2016) and Transcendent Kingdom (2020). Homegoing is in the genre of historical fiction and was a Sunday Times bestseller. It won the National Book Critics Award for Best First Novel and was shortlisted for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for a debut novel. In 2017, Yaa Gyasi was selected as one of Granta’s Best Young American novelists and in 2019 the BBC selected Homegoing as one of the 100 novels that shaped our world.

Her second book, Transcendent Kingdom, was longlisted for the 2020 Prix Médicis étranger and the 2021 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. It was also shortlisted for the 2021 Women’s Prize for fiction.

Yaa Gyasi was born in Mampong and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at Stanford University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. In 2020, she was awarded the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Literature.
