Writer for May - Kwami Anyidoho
Writers Project of Ghana is happy to present as guest writer for the month of July, Major General Henry Kwami Anyidoho, recipient of the Distinguished Service Order for Gallantry, and a General of the Ghana Armed Forces.

General Anyidoho is internationally recognised for the part he played leading the Ghanaian contingent of 356 peacekeepers which was in Rwanda throughout the period of the fighting in 1994 and 1995. His account of the events of that period is recorded in his book, Guns Over Kigali: The Rwandese Civil War (Woeli Publishing Services, 1997). He has also contributed chapters in other books. His autobiography, My Journey: Every Step was published by Sub-Saharan Publishers in 2010.

General Anyidoho was born in Tanyigbe in the Volta Region and served in the Ghana Army for forty-one years. He is currently retired and is a Senior Research Associate of The Kings College, London. He has worked with the United Nations in various capacities since retirement, having served as Co-ordinator of International Observers on the Cameroon-Nigeria, Darfur Regional Co-ordinator of United Nations Mission in Sudan, and as the Deputy Joint Special Representative for the AU-UN Hybrid Operations in Darfur. Currently, he is a member of a Senior Advisory Group to the Secretary General of the United Nations on some pertinent peacekeeping matters.

General Anyidoho is also a patron of the Ghana Heart Foundation and a Presbyter of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Canadian General Roméo Dallaire (author, Shake Hands with the Devil: Da Capo Press, 2004) describes Gen Anyidoho in the foreword to My Journey as “...a true professional and an officer who exemplified the traditional military virtues of courage, fortitude, endurance and good humour in adversity”.
