Writers Project of Ghana and Goethe Institute proudly present author Manu Herbstein at our regular monthly reading series in Accra.

Manu Herbstein is an engineer by by profession and has worked as a civil and structural engineer in England, Scotland, India, Zambia, Nigeria, and Ghana. As a writer, his work has focussed on historical and modern African fiction for adults and young adults.

His first novel, Ama, A Story of the Atlantic Slave Trade won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for best first book in 2002.

His other works in print include Brave Music of a Distant Drum (Red Deer, 2010) which also received honourable mention for the Burt Award for African Literature, and Akosua and Osman (Techmate, 2011) which won the third prize in the 2011 Burt Award for African Literature. His latest work, The Boy Who Spat in Sagrenti's Eye won third prize in the 2014 Burt Award.
