Author of the Month: Yeayi Kobina

Writers Project of Ghana is happy to announce the start of the 2023 edition of our monthly reading series, organised in collaboration with our partners Goethe-Institut Ghana. Dedicated to fiction or long form writing, this reading series has over the past twelve years featured writers from Ghana, Africa and beyond for engaging sessions of reading and conversation.

This month, we are hosting Ghanaian writer and novelist Yeayi Kobina, author of The Usurper's Dream, a novel about the coming of age of Osei Tutu, the first king of what would become the Ashanti Empire. The Usurper's Dream presents Osei Tutu’s struggle to free the people of Kwaaman from the clutches of Denkyira. He is ably supported by his oracle Okomfo Anokye whose magical escapades help in the creation of an empire.

The Usurper's Dream is the first of five books exploring the coming into being of one of Africa’s prominent kingdoms, the Ashanti empire.

Yeayi Kobina spent over a decade as a media practitioner, playing multiple roles in broadcast journalism, news anchoring, branding and programming communications, scriptwriting, and content producing. He has worked as the lead producer of TV3’s flagship morning show, Newday.

Join us at the Goethe Institute on Wednesday, 29th March 2023 at 7 PM for a reading and conversation with the author, Yeayi Kobina. The conversation will be moderated by Dela Nyamuame.

We look forward to having you join us in person. You can also join us online and share in the experience.
