Mawuli Adjei

Dr. Mawuli Adzei (BA, MPhil., MA, PhD) is Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the Department of English, University of Ghana, Legon. He currently teaches Practice in Criticism, Studies in African Poetry, Studies in Popular Genres, Introduction to Oral Literature, Life Story, Creative Writing and Life Story at the undergraduate level; Post-Colonial Literature, Popular Genres, Poetry and Society in Africa and Studies in Oral Literature at the graduate level. Over the past 18 years, he has participated in numerous local and international conferences and workshops where he presented research papers. He has published in more than 20 refereed journals and contributed book chapters to academic publications. His current research interests include the literary manifestations of slavery (oral and written), diaspora studies, new media and African film.

Dr. Adzei has to his credit the following publications: Taboo (novel, 2011), Testament of the Seasons (poetry, 2011), The Jewel of Kabibi (novel, 2012) and The Witch of Lagbati (novel, 2014). His Filaments (poetry) and Bakudi's Ghost (novel) are due to be released in December 2017. He has featured in many literary events including the Writers Project Ghana/Goethe Institut monthly reading sessions, Accra City FM's Literary Programme, Class FM’s Book Review Programme, UNESCO World Poetry Day events, University of Lome's Programme de la RICEP Literary Workshop etc. He has been a Resource Person in Creative Writing for the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), Mbaasem Foundation, Writers Project Ghana, GIRD Writing Camp, Tema International School Creative Writing Workshop, PEN International and Visiting Lecturer in Creative Writing at the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He is anthologized in The Mirror, Prairie Schooner and According to Sources. Selections of his poetry have been performed at the Babishai Literary Festival (Kampala, Uganda), StoryMoja Festival (Nairobi, Kenya) and World Poetry Day (University of Trondheim, Norway).
